By the time I’m at a point in my life where I can just buy neat cars just to see what they’re like, all the cars I’d want to buy will be long gone or super rare. I can’t stop thinking about that and it’s putting me in a slump.

Kinja'd!!!

Cadillac Etcetera

Sexy, sexy Eldorado for your time. A prime example of a cool car I’ll never be able to experience.

Something interesting and fun will always be at the bottom of the depreciation curve. The ones you’re looking at now won’t be, but something else will take their place.

Yeah, cars from 2005-2015. Peak “appliance” years for car design. Gone are oddites like mid-engine economy cars and large V8 coupes. Gone are cars with personality.

I think there’s a guy on here who autocrosses a late ‘80's/early ‘90's Beretta (I think, one of those GM products)...if you want to, and can be a little creative, you can have fun with low budgets. You’re worried about something that might be the case in the future...

Cars like that are always still around, they’re just harder to find. Hopefully, the ones left will be the good ones, the ones that die would be the shit ones anyway.

I think I know exactly what you mean. I was 16 in 1995, and the cars I wanted were a 69 camaro and an turbo air cooled Porsche. I said those are the cars I will get in my 30s. Well i’m 37 and at this point in time have to forget about those cars. With kids, and a house those are not long for me

I can barely afford one car as it is. That’s not something that can change, at least not for a very long time.

I feel this way about cars in general. I’ve been obsessed with them since the age of two and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon. Cars have ALWAYS been my main hobby by far. Someday, they’re all going to be self-driving emission-free blobs like the Google car. And that makes me sad.

Just do it. Find the cheapest low mile post 2000 you can and buy it. Youll get a few cheap years before it falls about. Worth it!

Hey, man...I get you. I’ve been at times in my life that I was counting nickels and dimes to ‘splurge’ on a bottle of pop, because I had already gone thru my dollars and quarters. Thankfully I’m out of that now, but I’m not going to be the guy who tells you to stay where you are and depressed. I get your feelings, but just trying to give you a reason to think a little more positively.

Take a trip up north of Boston before the snow flies and I’ll show you how to drive my ‘54 MG. It’s not for sale, but I try to make sure it gets enjoyed from time to time!

Yeah, about that... My boss told me today he was offered an M1 for $30k in the mid 80's. WTF, man!!

Come out to the northwest. You would be surprised how many vintage survivors there are up here.

Use your wants for motivation. That’s what gets me thru the day, makes me work harder, longer, etc. Pickup a side hustle if you have to.

I’ll say. I can’t even find a decent Corolla coupe. They only made millions of these little economy cars, and now they don’t exist. Don’t even get me started on Coronas.

There’s a silver one puttering around here with a red velour interior.

I’m right there, dude.

I’ve basically given up the idea of owning the (many, oh so many) cars that I would like to experience; for that, I would need to be a prince in Dubai. Now I’m wondering how I can get to at least drive them each once. Or, barring that, at least drive a smattering of different cars, just for sake of variety.

Some folks on here talked about doing a key-swap awhile back... a bunch of people show up and either choose to trade cars with someone for a day or a weekend, or trade at random among the group. While this sounds friggin awesome I can’t, in good conscience, put my car up for trade, and while the statistics are in favor of everyone being fine, I can’t even imagine hat the legal headache would be if someone wrecked someone else’s car.
